Social Media Sites : home of the cyber bullies

There have been many articles on cyber bullying and social media.  Several major newspapers have written articles on the subject along with advise on how to get the cyber bullying stopped and removed from the internet.

Interestingly many of the online forums that write against cyber bullying and claim to remove it actually ignore it and promote it.  They do not want to risk alienating users because the more controversy, the more money they earn via page views and clicks on the advertisements that are on the page. To them, they care little about the bully victims because it creates interest and increases income.

Facebook is a popular forum for cyber bullies because Facebook ignores complaints about cyber bullying and Terms Of Service (TOS) violations when cyber bullying / harassment / impersonation and other abuse of their forums is reported.  Some of the cyber bullying pages are full of defamation and are libelous towards other users or those they choose to stalk.  Even graphic violence is accepted and tolerated ("anything for a buck")  The popular victims for the cyber terrorist bullies are those who have opinions and views that disagree with their herd mentality.¹ These bullies believe they can libel and harass those who disagree with their views.  Never mind the United States is a free country and was founded on the principle of people being able to have differing views and opinions about every subject (including religion and politics) they are supposedly free to openly share.   Those who founded this nation moved here to escape the tyranny of their home countries.  Those who recently immigrate here generally do so because of the so-called tolerance of this nation and acceptance of all regardless of race, religions, politics, or world views.

Social media sites such as Facebook promotes narcissism especially those with low self esteem ("see how many "friends" I've got" and "Look at me")² and because of this, the neo-narcissist believes they can harass and bully anyone that disagrees with them and their viewpoint on anything and everything. This, and the fact facebook and other social media sites do nothing to prevent the bullying, leads to cyber attacks and illegal activities.³ yet neither law enforcement or the social media sites does anything to prevent or stop it.  Facebook leads to mob mentality and the belief the neo-narcissist is "entitled" to whatever they and their group wants.  This is socialism in the making.

Even online forums such as Oregonlive, KGW (Portland, OR Belo subsidiary), and others do nothing to remove the defamation and libelous posts against other users while at the same time running articles to prevent and stop cyber bullying.   You have people in cyber gangs that are bullying others instead of learning to respect and listen to others beliefs and opinions and discuss things rationally.

It used to be when people had differing opinions and views they would be able to rationally discuss the differences without being harassed and stalked.  Sadly, this is no longer the case.  Instead of being thinkers, this country has become a country of feelers - a society where new math and political correctness is more important than facts.⁴

It amazes me that those who feel Terri Horman is guilty of a crime want to torture her to get her to talk, demand her Constitutional rights are violated to force her to confess (even if innocent), and believes her silence and hiring of an attorney implies guilt  are the same people who bad mouthed President Bush for water boarding Gitanamo prisoners and believes the terrorism prisoners should have the right to an attorney, etc.  They hold a double standard for Terri Horman and one has to wonder why they are so against her so much they will harass, bully, and terrorize those who dare post they do not believe Terri Horman is guilty (or are these that are bullying and stalking  involved in Kaine Horman's BDSM and are harassing those who speak against Kaine?)

If society and the media cares about cyber bullying and the social impact of it, they need to take a more proactive approach to stop and prevent it even if it means they will lose a few advertising dollars doing so.  Until the Constitution is trashed entirely by the socialist president and legislature, people in this country still have the right to their own opinions and the right of freedom of speech.  Law enforcement and the social media sites needs to protect those with differing viewpoints from being bullied and harassed.
